Locality
Ashwood High School is located in the suburb of Ashwood, 15 kilometres east from Melbourne's city centre, just off High Street Road on Vannam Drive. This is a suburb half way between the city centre and the outer fringe of metropolitan Melbourne’s suburban spread and services the Monash and Waverley communities. Housing in the suburbs of Ashburton, Ashwood and Glen Waverley has become expensive in recent years, changing the demographic character of these areas. The suburbs surrounding the school are Ashwood, Ashburton, Burwood, Chadstone, Glen Waverley, Glen Iris, Hughesdale, Malvern, Mount Waverley and Oakleigh.
The school is in the municipality served by the City of Monash. Ashwood is essentially a residential suburb, settled during the middle decades of the last century. There are manufacturing and industrial areas as well, particularly to the north of the school and near to the Gardiner’s Creek. Chadstone Shopping Centre is 5 kilometres to the south of the school, Deakin University a few kilometres north. The Holmesglen Institute of TAFE is located just a short walk from the school on Warrigal Road.

Ashwood High School is located 15 kilometres from the city and is easily accessible by a range of public transport. The school is close to two train stations, Jordanville and Holmesglen. Various bus stops in High Street Road, Highbury Road, Warrigal Road are a short walk away and the school is well serviced by the Gardiner’s Creek bicycle and walking track. Many students walk or ride to school. Visitors can find short term car parking in the Visitor's carpark, the main carpark or in Farmers Street carpark.
